| October 26, 2008 Patriots play tough, beat Rams

(NECN) - Playing on short rest after a Monday night game is always a concern, but it did not appear to affect the New England Patriots on Sunday in their 23-16 win over the St. Louis Rams.
Despite a few lapses, it was a depleted Patriots defense which led the way, putting consistent pressure on Rams quarterback Marc Bulger and making the plays when they needed to be made.
Adalius Thomas walked away with two sacks on the day for a total loss of 26 yards. Deltha O'Neal also had a late interception, which sealed the win for New England.
Matt Cassel had an up-and-down day, throwing for 267 yards and one touchdown, but also taking three sacks and throwing two interceptions. The Pats defense allowed no touchdowns from inside the Red Zone, forcing St. Louis to settle for three field goals instead.
Rookie running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis broke the goal line first for New England on a 2-yard touchdown run -- the second of his career.
It was Kevin Faulk who did most of the damage from the running back position, racking up 60 yards on the ground and catching the winning touchdown pass in the fourth quarter -- a 15 yard lob from Cassel.
Randy Moss had a solid game, despite dropping a pass in the end zone, racking up 102 yards on seven receptions.
The Patriots play the Colts next week on Sunday night.
