(NECN: St. Petersburg, Fla) - The Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 to take the first game of the ALCS. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 7 innings allowing four hits for the win. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning until Carl Crawford hit a single. Papelbon closed out the game for the Sox sixth straight playoff road win.
Dustin Pedroia was 1-3 and scored a run in Game One. On Daisuke's performance, Pedroia said, "He's been doing that all year, tonight Daisuke was unbelievable no hit for six, seven innings... it was big lift for us." Dustin says that although the Rays have no playoff experience, the Sox are still going to have to grind it out, and the series will be a battle.
The Sox and Rays play game two Saturday in Tampa Bay.
