Phelps wins eighth Gold Medal to pass Spitz

(NECN) - Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian of all time.

The 23 year old won his eighth Gold medal on Saturday night with the help of his teammates in the 400 meter medley.

Phelps has now passed Mark Spitz' Gold medal record for most in a single Olympics, set 36 years ago.

Phelps teammate Ian Crocker of Portland Maine says he's calling it quits for a while.

Crocker plans to return to Austin, Texas, where he currently lives and is two classes shy of a sociology degree from the University of Texas.

Crocker tells the Portland Press Herald he doesn't know what his future will bring.

He finished fourth in Friday's 100 meter butterfly.
