(NECN: Washington D.C.) - The Boston Red Sox are being honored at the White House by President Bush. The team is celebrating their 2007 World Series Championship with the President, for whom they made up a special Red Sox jersey with the name "Bush" and the number "07" on the back.
The players will also visit Walter Reed Army Medical Center before returning to Florida for Spring Training tonight.
"Walter Reed, no question," Manager Terry Francona said in remembering his last visit to Walter Reed. "You're looking at kids that have lost limbs but it was humbling. It was an honor to be there. Everybody wanted to stay and talk."
The 2004 team also met with the President to celebrate the organization's first title since 1918.
"I'm extremely excited," AL rookie of the year Dustin Pedroia said. "It's a great opportunity for guys that didn't go there in '04."
