(NECN: Boston, MA) - Sean Grande, radio voice of the champion Boston Celtics recaps the NBA draft and takes a look ahead to next season with NECN's Chris Collins. The Celtics selected JR Giddens with their First Round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Giddens transferred from Kansas to New Mexico after his sophomore season - reportedly over an off court issue. Boston also acquired Kansas State freshman Bill Walker, exchanging cash with the Washington Wizards. With the last pick in the second round, the Celtics grabbed 7' 1" Turkish center Semih Erden. The Chicago Bulls selected Memphis freshman Derrick Rose with the first overall pick. The Chicago native will bring his playmaking ability to the Windy City after leading Memphis to the National Championship in his only season under John Calipari. The Bulls had considered taking Michael Beasley but instead the Kansas State product went to Miami with the number two pick in the draft. USC star OJ Mayo went to Minnesota for the third pick, making it the first time in history that freshmen were drafted in the top three picks. Overall four freshmen went in the top five and there were new records set with seven freshmen in the lottery, and 10 in the first round.
