(Prat Thakkar, NECN: Boston, Mass.) - The sun might not have been shining, but officials over at the Suffolk Downs racetrack are hoping for a bright 2008 season. Saturday was opening day at the East Boston track.
Despite some recent setbacks involving expanded gaming in Massachusetts, owners say they're still focused on boosting public interest in their business.
The track's weakening business over past years have the owners taking new steps to boost business. They are making it a more family friendly entertainment than it was in the past, as well as scheduling race times to catch the after-work crowd.
Once again Suffolk Down's opening day coincided with the running of the Kentucky Derby. The big racing day proves to be a great way to kick off the season at the East Boston track.
