Tedy Bruschi returning to the Patriots

BOSTON (AP) - Veteran New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi, who recovered from a stroke in 2005 and later resumed his career, has agreed to a new multiyear contract with the team.

A league source speaking Thursday night on condition on anonymity to The Associated Press says the deal is expected to be signed on Friday.

Bruschi played and started in all regular season and playoff games this past season.

It was uncertain if the 34-year-old would return after the Patriots lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl earlier this month.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James said the team does not confirm contracts until they are signed.

Ten days after helping New England win the 2005 Super Bowl, Bruschi was hospitalized after suffering a minor stroke.

But after having surgery to repair a hole in his heart, he vigorously began an improbable comeback.
