(Brad Puffer, NECN: Boston, Mass.) - The official charity of the Boston Red Sox, the Jimmy Fund, is auctioning off the David Ortiz jersey that was buried under the Yankees' new stadium by a Boston fan hoping to curse New York.
The No. 34 jersey went up for auction on eBay Thursday with a starting bid of $500 dollars. Also included in the deal are a brand new jersey and two seats to a Red Sox game. All proceeds will go to the children's cancer charity affiliated with Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Construction worker Gino Castignoli, a Red Sox fan from the Bronx, had dropped the jersey in wet concrete in an effort the curse the Yankees. The jersey was discovered on Sunday and the Yankees sent it to the Jimmy Fund.
