(Scot Yount, NECN: Barrington, RI) - It appears Wednesday's storms hit the hardest in Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts. A lot of tree limbs are came down and a lot of people are without power.
All across southeastern Massachusetts lightning bolts rained down. The storm brought torrents of rain and wind. In barrington, Rhode Island a water spout formed. A kind of funnel cloud formed over the bay. Nicholas Caisse saw the funnel cloud and starting snapping pictures.
According to National Grid, 2500 customers in Massachusetts lost power, and another 8100 are without electricity in Rhode Island.
The National Weather Service says trained weather spotters saw funnel clouds above waters off Barrington and over East Providence Wednesday around 4 p.m. William Babcock, a weather service meteorologist, says they have no reports that the clouds touched
down on land.
There are reports of trees down in Barrington and neighboring Bristol, but police there say they have no reports that tornadoes hit those towns.
