| August 7, 2008 Heavy rains flood several homes in Worcester, MA

(Prat Thakkar, NECN: Worcester, MA) - A wild day of strong severe storms struck New England Thursday. The storms brought a lot of rain, lightning and even a tornado warning.
A funnel cloud was reported in the Western Massachusetts town of Sunderland and near Bridgeport, CT. Weather officials have yet to confirm if a tornado actually touched down in either area.
The heavy rains Thursday led to severe street flooding across New England. One of the worst spots was Worcester, Massachusetts. Several streets were flooded until DPW crews were able to clean out the storm drains.
Homeowners however were not so lucky, and there is not a quick fix. They are hoping that FEMA will pay for some of the cleanup, as they did for a similar situation in 2005.
