| June 30, 2008 Lightning strikes tree in Dracut, MA

(Christine Caswell, NECN: Dracut, MA) - Heavy rains and powerful winds stormed New England Sunday evening, leaving down tree and power lines in their wake.
In Dracut, Massachusetts, a pine tree was struck by lightning. It pulled the electrical, phone and cable lines away from the house, but power was only lost for about 30 seconds. Home owner Michael Walsh says that he was unaware that the tree had fallen until the fire department showed up. Walsh says he is lucky that the tree fell onto the street and not onto his house.
A band of powerful thunderstorms rumbled through northern Essex and Middlesex counties, leaving downed power lines and tree branches in their wake.
NECN's Christine Caswell has more.
