NECN/Star News/TV Today/NDTV) - Authorities now say at least 78 people were killed in coordinated attacks in Mumbai, India, and the toll is expected to rise higher.
Johnny Joseph, chief secretary for Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, initially said 90 people had been injured, but refused to say how many had died. Other reports place the number of injured as high as 200.
Gunmen opened fire on two of the city's best known Luxury hotels, the Taj Mahal and the Oberoi, where police say hostages are being kept. They also attacked the crowded Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in southern Mumbai and Leopold's restaurant, a Mumbai landmark.
The gunmen also attacked police headquarters in south Mumbai, the area where most of the attacks took place.
