| December 3, 2008 India-Pakistan relationship grows more tense

(NECN/ABC) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Pakistan has a "special responsibility" to help investigate the Mumbai terror attacks. Rice is in India, where she is urging government restraint in response to the assault that killed at least 171 and wounded over 300.
In the streets of Mumbai, a demonstration of sadness and a display of anger can be seen. Across the country, there is anger at Pakistan, where U.S. and Indian officials believe the attack originated. And, there is anger at politicians, who Indians argue failed to stop an attack widely described in India as that country's 9/11.
In the capital, some four months before the elections, that anger puts tremendous pressure on politicians to respond aggressively. Condoleezza Rice is there in part to try and manage that response.
The fear that India may react has put Pakistan on edge. India accused ex-military members of training the attacks, but the government has repeatedly denied any connection to the attack.
