| July 15, 2009 Giraffe gives birth to her 11th baby

(NECN/AP) - A female Giraffe at the Israeli Safari in Ramat-Gan, east of Tel Aviv, gave birth to her 11th baby today.
The giraffe, known as 'Denissa,' broke the world record for the number of babies born to a giraffe of her age, said her trainer, Gali Berckovitz.
Denissa is almost 20-years old, and been given the nickname "super-mum" by her trainers.
Berckovitz said the new-born female giraffe would spend the day getting accustomed to her new environment, surrounded by her brothers and sisters and nursed by her mother.
A pregnancy for a reticulated giraffe lasts 14-months and females can start bearing babies by the age of five.
Caretakers say that one of the possible reasons for Denissa's large number of pregnancies is the fact she remains the only grown female in the herd of reticulated giraffes in the Safari.
