(NECN) - Talks between the Chinese government and envoys of the Dalai Lama are scheduled to start on Sunday.

The meeting would be the first between the two sides since violent anti-government protests erupted in Tibet in March.

China has faced mounting international pressure to negotiate with the Dalai Lama. Experts believe Beijing agreed to meet to ease pressure ahead of the Olympics.
