(NECN/ABC) - In Lebanon, the power struggle between the U.S.-backed government and Hezbollah-led opposition is getting bloodier. Streets in the capital of Beirut have become shooting galleries and foreigners are trying to flee the country.
Hezbollah gunmen are now in control of several Beirut neighborhoods. After a 17-month deadlocked power struggle, the Iranian-backed opposition leader Hassan Nasarallah says the government is finished.
Prime Minister Siniora is now said to be holed up in his office surrounded by troops to protect him.
The opposition forced the television station run by Saad Hariri off the air and set his affiliated newspaper offices on fire. Hariri is the country's top Sunni leader.
He urged Hezbollah to pull back "and save Lebanon from hell."
Lebanese troops are not engaging in street fighting to try an avoid an all out sectarian war.
