(NECN/ABC) - Efforts to save survivors of the Myanmar cyclone are growing more desperate as the country's rulers intercept relief supplies. The military regime is refusing entry to professional aid groups poised at its borders. The international community ponders what to do next as the massive death toll promises to rise.
Survivors are fending for themselves, finding water wherever they can. Children are left alone, surrounded by destruction.
Of the estimated 1.5 million people who urgently need food, water and housing, only a fraction of them are receiving help. The prime minister is handing out video equipment to areas that have no electricity, but government ministers have personally confiscated this emergency aid, provided by the World Food Program.
38 tons of biscuits that could have fed 95,000 people were taken away.
