(NECN/ABC) - In china's earthquake zone, there are some hopeful stories to report, amid
the widespread devastation. We're just learning about two rescues.
It took three days and a full-scale military operation to reach the most
remote areas in the devastated quake zone. And for many of those trapped and or seriously injured the help arrived too late.
Miraculously there are still survivors being pulled from crushed buildings.
But even these stories are heartbreaking.
A teenage girl freed but only after her legs had to be amputated.
And this young student who had both arms amputated he had begged doctors to
save one arm so he could still hold a pen in school.
It is no surprise that grief is now turning to anger
Parents wanting to know why the rescue teams couldn't arrive sooner to save
their children.
Hundreds of thousands of people now in desperate need of shelter, food,
water, medicine.
As many as 3 million homes have been lost and a serious public health crisis
is now looming in makeshift refugee camps.
This, most likely, is what motivated the Chinese government to finally allow
foreign aid and assistance.
The first search-and-rescue team from Japan has just arrived. They are
specialists quake recovery. There are more teams coming from Taiwan, Hong
Kong, Singapore and Russia.
Even the Chinese President Hu Jintao flew into the quake zone this
