| August 12, 2008 Russian Pres orders halt to military action in Georgia

(NECN) - Russian news reports are quoting President Dmitri Medvedev ordering a halt to Russian military action in Georgia.
Medvedev said in a statement that Russian action has punished Georgia and restored security for civilians and Russian peace-keepers in South Ossetia.
President Bush on Monday demanded an immediate truce saying the invasion had damaged Russia's standing in the world.
The UN Security Council was expected to call for a cease-fire and the withdrawal of troops on Tuesday.
But it's unclear how Medvedev's announcement will impact the UN's moves.
