(NECN/ABC) - The Secretary General of the United Nations is on his way to Myanmar. Tomorrow, Ban Ki-moon will make a humanitarian plea to the nation's rulers on behalf of their own people. He wants to persuade the military government to accept more foreign aid for victims of Cyclone Nargis.
The international community is accusing the government of putting survivors' lives at risk because aid efforts have been so slow.
The Secretary General was greeted with open arms in Thailand, but an equal welcome is not expected in Myanmar.
The Myanmar government only recently allowed in the UN chief for humanitarian aid. He has negotiated the Secretary General's trip.
Myanmar has allowed in just 130 UN aid workers to help care for millions of victims.
Their priority is vaccinating children against measles, and providing families with the bare necessities.
But, there is no guarantee the Secretary General will get to see these scenes for himself.
The government will control his trip.
