RESPONSIBILITIES:
New England Cable News, America’s largest regional cable news channel, seeks a talented PM Receive and Ingest Operator. The PM Receive and Ingest Operator is responsible for the technical coordination and operation of all live paths and feed material coming into NECN, via microwave, fiber, and satellite. As the first point of contact for field personnel, the receive op establishes all communications and provides basic production information. Additionally, the receive op works closely with the News Department to process incoming material under frequent deadline pressure and rapidly changing priorities. The receive op coordinates with other Boston microwave licensees to access and share 2Ghz. channels. Finally, the position provides ingest and playout server support and other related production duties such as Master Control Relief and Studio Guest Coordination as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have an understanding of satellite, microwave and fiber transmission technologies to include the ability coordinate and troubleshoot transmissions in progress. An understanding of proper audio and video production standards and the ability to, “adjust on the fly” also is important. Organization, diplomacy and the ability to prioritize requirements in changing situations are key to success in this position. Qualified candidates must have operating knowledge of Grass Valley’s server-based newsroom ingest and production systems, SONY BetacamSP VTR’s, waveform monitors and vectorscopes, spectrum analyzers, routers, and patch panels.

SHIFT:
Monday through Friday, 3:30PM to 12:00AM.

Freelance & On Call Technical Operations

New England Cable News (NECN), America’s largest regional cable news channel, seeks freelance candidates for on-call, vacation relief, illness and special event coverage of the following technical operations positions.

Freelance Director/TD:
Call and switch programming on NECN’s Grass Valley Kalypso or Ampex Century 215 production switchers. The Freelance Director/TD is familiar with the AP’s ENPS, Thomson-Grass Valley production automation, Pinnacle Lightning still stores and Chyron Max character generators. A college degree in a related field and three years of specific experience is required.

Freelance SNG Truck/ENG Van Operator:
Drive and operate NECN’s remote satellite and microwave vans for newsgathering. Successful candidates will have two years experience in live truck operations, a clean driving record, strong commitment to safe truck operations and the capability to diagnose and/or complete minor repairs. The ability to perform with diplomacy, safety and efficiency under deadline pressure is strongly preferred. A valid health card and familiarization with DOT driving regulations is required. References and driving records checked.

Freelance Audio Operator:
The ability to mix live television news with remote elements and frequent program rundown changes is required. Two years of experience in a major market news environment and a college degree is desired. Familiarity with the AP’s ENPS, Wheatstone and Mackie audio consoles, IFB routers and digital audio editing software is necessary.

Freelance Receive, Server and Videotape Operators:
Duties include the ability to precisely execute the playout of program elements according to show rundowns. Tune satellite and microwave reception equipment as needed for live news transmissions. Route incoming and outgoing fiber optic transmissions, record incoming feed materials and establish two-way communications with crews in the field. . Familiarity with the AP’s ENPS, a two-year college degree, technical school and/or industry experience is desired.

Freelance Master Control Operators:
Presentation of programs and commercials according the station’s master log, with regular cut-ins for breaking news events on various shifts. NECN uses a Sundance/Seachange automation system with Utah Scientific routing and switching. Duties include maintaining the on-time delivery of program elements, commercials and promotional materials. A two-year college degree, technical school and/or industry experience is required.

Freelance Robotic Camera Operator:
Operate Vinten/TSM, Livewave and Telemetrics camera control systems on various shifts. A two-year college degree, technical school and/or industry experience is preferred for these weekday coverage opportunities on various shifts.
