(NECN) - On the road to the White House, Republican presidential candidate John McCain receives a huge endorsement from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"He's a great American hero and an extraordinary leader. This is why I'm endorsing him as our next president of the United States."
Also calling McCain a crusader against wasteful spending, Schwarzenegger said McCain has the national security credentials to be the next president.
"I think Senator McCain has proven over and over again that he's reaching across the aisle to get things done."
McCain was also joined on stage by Rudi Guiliani, who dropped out of the Republican contest on Thursday to endorse the Arizona senator.
But, Giuliani, Schwarzenegger and McCain are far from the most popular politicians among the party establishment -- what has been traditionally considered the culturally conservative wing of the party -- the type of Republicans that Mitt Romney has been heavily courting.
Romney often accuses McCain of having liberal positions on campaign finance reform, immigration and global warming.
Romney plans to run a "significant level" of television ads in California and other Super Tuesday states. With just four days to go, it may be Romney's only option.
