(NECN) - It was simply a kind of freak accident. Grief counselors were at Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton, Massachusetts Wednesday to meet with students after the death of a classmate. 19-year-old Frank Demeo of Stow was hit by a car driven by a friend Tuesday afternoon while jogging on Fox Run Road in Bolton.
Superintendent Michael Wood says Demeo, a co-captain of the school's wrestling team, was being followed in a car by a fellow teammate. The Worcester District Attorney's office says the driver was 17-year-old David Hayden of Stow, Massachusetts. Two other teammates were passengers in the car.
Wood says Demeo went running to make sure he made the weight limit for his meet that night. According to Bolton Police Chief, Vincent Alfono, Hayden was driving a Toyota Camry. Alfono says the driver and other passengers reported the accident.
The investigation is ongoing but Alfono says speed or alcohol were not factors in the accident. Charges have not been filed against the driver.
Demeo, who planned to wrestle in college after graduation, leaves behind a younger brother and sister. School administrators say he will be missed.
NECN's Jennifer Eagan has more.
