(NECN: Vermont) - "Something like this makes you question everybody, certainly brings about some trust issues," says Jim Bennett, father of Brooke Bennett.

Was there anything that should have been noticed or could have been done, asked NECN's Anya Huneke. "I ask myself that question 100 times a day," said Jim Bennett. "I don't think there is anything specific that pops out...because we always had the talk with her...if something is happening to you, you have to come and talk to us," said Brooke's stepmother, Janet Bennett.

Do you have any sense of whether everything was great in her life up until that day? -- asked Anya.

"I think everything was fine up until that day," said Janet. "She had issues with friends in school, but nothing unusual."

Brooke's step-aunt hopes this 'never happens to anyone else'

Brooke Bennett's step-grandfather says he's impressed with the community support.

Convicted sex offender and uncle of Brooke, Michael Jacques, has been charged with Brooke's kidnapping. She disappeared on June 25 and was found dead a week later.

Her former stepfather, 40-year-old Raymond Gagnon, of San Antonio, is charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly having an acquaintance throw out his laptop computer as authorities were searching for Brooke. He has also been charged in Alabama with possession of child pornography.
