(NECN: Sderot, Israel) - Barack Obama says as an American and a friend of Israel, "we stand with all the people of Israel." The Democratic presidential candidate says, "Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel."

Obama spoke at a press conference in Sderot, near the Gaza border Wednesday. The city has been a frequent target of rocket attacks from Palestinian militants.

"Peace cannot be purchased by putting Israel's security at risk," said Obama.

In Obama's words: "America must always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself against those who threaten its people."
