Peres thanks Bush for his friendship

(NECN: Jerusalem, Israel) - President Bush was in Israel Wednesday to mark 60 years of Israel's existence.

"Without the support of your people, without your support and without the support of the American presidents before you, obtaining this goal would have been extremely difficult. Almost impossible," said Israeli President Shimon Peres.

"You, Mr. President, moved us with your friendship," said Peres.

Peres, meeting with Bush in the trellis-covered sandstone portion of his gardens, backed Bush's hope for an accord, saying Israelis want to work with Palestinians.
