(NECN: Jerusalem, Israel) - President Bush, whilst making numerous warm comments to his hosts since arriving Wednesday in Israel, limited his mention of Palestinians to just one sentence in his address to the Israeli Knesset Thursday.
Bush's embrace of Israel at a time when the Palestinians were mourning is bound to further harm a heavily tainted U.S. image in the Palestinian areas and across the Arab world.
About 700,000 Palestinians lost their homes either by expulsion or by fleeing in fear of attack from Jewish militias in the war that followed Israel's foundation in 1948.
For almost a year now, the Islamic militant group Hamas has ruled Gaza, while the Occupied West Bank is run for the most part by moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Knesset is Israel's legislature.
