Jane Fonda Reveals She Is a Rape Survivor

"One of the great things the women’s movement has done is to make us realize that [rape and abuse is] not our fault"

Two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda revealed for the first time she is a rape survivor, in a new interview in Net-A-Porter magazine.

"To show you the extent to which a patriarchy takes a toll on females; I’ve been raped, I’ve been sexually abused as a child and I’ve been fired because I wouldn’t sleep with my boss and I always thought it was my fault," Fonda says.

Interviewed by fellow Academy Award winner Brie Larson, The 79-year-old "Grace and Frankie" star didn't specify when she was assaulted, but credited the women's power movement for changing the culture that led many women to blame themselves for sexual assaults.

"One of the great things the women’s movement has done is to make us realize that [rape and abuse is] not our fault," she said. "We were violated and it’s not right."
