Metallica Announces Weeklong Residency on “The Late Late Show” Before Craig Ferguson Exits

According to Metallica's official Twitter, lead singer James Hetfield and the band will perform five nights in a row next month.

Late night is getting a huge dose of rock 'n' roll!

As Craig Ferguson prepares for his final weeks as host of "The Late Late Show," the program has lined up a pretty impressive band to rock the house one last time.

According to Metallica's official Twitter, lead singer James Hetfield and the band will perform five nights in a row next month.

The final performance will come days before Metallica re-release a special 10-year anniversary edition of their long out of print documentary "METALLICA: Some Kind of Monster."

This isn't the first time a band has taken over the late-night scene for an entire week.

Earlier this month, Grammy-winning rock band the Foo Fighters took up a residence at the Ed Sullivan Theatre on the "Late Show With David Letterman."

In support of their forthcoming album, "Sonic Highways," Dave Grohl and the band performed a wide variety of songs for the late-night host who is a huge fan of the group's music.

"The Late Late Show" will soon experience a whole lot of change once Ferguson steps away from the stage.

"At the end of this year, I will be stepping down as host of this show," he shared with a surprised audience back in April. "Then I'll go and do something else, probably. I'm thinking carpentry, but I haven't made my mind up yet. I don't know what I'm going to do yet but I feel doing this show for 10 years, that's enough."

CBS has announced that James Corden will replace Ferguson on the program beginning in March 2015. The show will tape in Los Angeles with Ben Winston serving as the executive producer.
