ALS awareness was the topic of Monday's Boston Business Journal report.

Don Seiffert of the BBJ joined necn to discuss, saying that there is only one drug on the market that will slow the progression of ALS; however, Seiffert said there are many Massachusetts companies working to find a cure.

Between the ice bucket challenge initiated by ALS patient Pete Frates and the Oscar-winning movie "The Theory of Everything" documenting ALS patient Stephen Hawking, the disease has gotten a lot of exposure in the past year. Seiffert says this is encouraging.
