Casino Developer Wynn Files Libel Lawsuit Against Unidentified Foe

Wynn said in a statement to The Boston Globe that no one "should be subjected to the defamatory political abuse that we have experienced"

The battle between casino developer Steve Wynn and the city of Boston is intensifying, with Wynn filing a libel lawsuit against an unidentified foe.

In the suit filed Monday in Suffolk Superior Court, Wynn Resorts Ltd. says unknown defendants defamed the company by providing subpoenas to the media related to the city's lawsuit against the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

The suit alleges the subpoenas were intended not to collect information, but to spread falsehoods contained within the documents to hurt Wynn, whose company plans a $1.7 billion casino in neighboring Everett.

Wynn said in a statement to The Boston Globe that no one "should be subjected to the defamatory political abuse that we have experienced."

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's office said it hadn't seen the suit and did not leak documents.
