Idexx Opens New Company Campus

The pet test kit company currently employes 2K people at its Westbrook, Maine campus

One of Maine's largest companies, which announced double digit earnings and profit growth this week, also opened a new corporate campus.

Idexx currently employs 2,000 people at its campus in Westbrook, Maine, where it designs and manufactures diagnostic test kits for pets.

This good news comes on the heels of the opening of a $35 million building that is part of an overall effort to change the way people work at Idexx. The new Synergy Center has an open concept plan, where even the CEO sits at a desk surrounded by other workers. There's also a fitness center, international food court and even a free health clinic for employees.

Idexx CEO Jon Ayers says the amenities and new focus on collaboration is leading to stronger growth.

"We are expanding our U.S. operation and we are going to be adding employees over the next 12 months by almost 200, an 80 percent expansion," Ayer said.

Idexx also just announced plans to change its business model and stop using distributors to sell its products and instead focus entirely
on selling directly to veterinarians.
