Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Voted One of Best Small Town Food Scenes in US

A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees, but USA Today readers determined the winners

Portsmouth, New Hampshire, has been voted the third best Small Town Food Scene in the country by readers of USA Today.

A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees, but the winners were determined by reader votes. Portsmouth finished behind Frankenmuth, Michigan, and Driftwood, Texas.

"Chefs from near and far have been coming to the shores of coastal Portsmouth, fueling a flavor-filled food revolution in the small town," USA Today wrote. "Moxy, with James Beard semifinalist Matt Louis at the helm, features New American with local New England ingredients. Chef Greg Sessler oversees the top notch tapas menu at nearby Cava."

Portsmouth was the only New England location to make the Top 10, though Great Barrington, Massachusetts, was also one of the towns nominated.

Small Town Food Scene was just one of dozens of categories readers were asked to vote on as part of USA Today's annual Readers' Choice Awards

Ogunquit, Maine, was recognized as the Best Coastal Small Town, Portland, Maine, was named the eighth best Beer Scene in the country, Stoneface Brewing Co. in Newington, New Hampshire, was named the third best New Brewery, and Townsman in Boston, Massachusetts, was named the sixth best New Restaurant.
