State-by-State Battle Over Casinos

Mass. isn't the only state where the casino industry and opponents are battling

There was another victory Thursday for Steve Wynn and the city of Everett, Massachusetts, and their plan for a resort casino.

State gaming regulators say they see no wrongdoing by Wynn Resorts following last week's arrest of three owners of land the company wants to develop into a casino.

The arrival of casino gaming in Massachusetts has been a long road full of twists and turns - and it's not over yet.

Massachusetts is far from the only state where the casino industry and gambling opponents are doing battle.

"This isn't driven by public good. This driven by very powerful special interests in partnership with state governments who are desperate for revenue, cause at the end of the day, this is a public policy that's whole purpose is to extract money from citizens, and it's been a failure," Les Bernal, national director of Stop Predatory Gaming, said.

Pro-casino guests were also invited to Thursday's show to take part in the debate, but none were available.
