Still No Deal in Market Basket Feud

The Demoulas family's feud has majorly affected thousands of employees at the grocery store chain

Although the clock is ticking, Market Basket shelves in Brockton, Massachusetts, continue to be sparse.

There's no meat, produce or specials, but plenty of anger still that the two sides in the Demoulas clan's feud haven't brokered a deal.

"I'm thinking honestly that they're very selfish people, billionaires," said former customer and Brockton resident Suzanne O'Leary.

The company, which is losing millions of dollars everyday, promised to do everything to reach a deal by the end of the week, according to the Boston Globe.

Brockton assistant manager Kevin Perno was still holding onto hope Thursday night.

"We hope, God willing, that tomorrow is the day that we can all smile again, that ATD comes back," he said.

Market Basket has has 71 stores in New England. Warehouse workers walked off the job last month, protesting the firing of CEO Arthur T. Demoulas. He's offered to buy out his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas, and other family members, but there has been no agreement yet.

The family feud has had major trickle down effect, since many employees are without work, including thousands of part-timers.

"It's a shame because a lot of them are single parents, whether it's a man or a woman trying to make ends meet," Perno said.

NECN reached out to both cousins Thursday night and the independent board by email, but did not get a response.
