Suffolk Downs Live Racing Unlikely

Negotiations to continue live racing at the Suffolk Downs horse track in Revere, Massachusetts, have broken down

Negotiations to continue live racing at the Suffolk Downs horse track in Revere, Massachusetts, have broken down.

A lawyer for a group of horse owners and trainers told state gambling regulators Thursday the breakdown means it's increasingly unlikely there will be live racing at the track next year.

The breakdown has led to a possible fight over simulcasting revenue.

The owners said they want to simulcast races from elsewhere, but state law requires that an operator of simulcast horse racing also operate live racing. Suffolk Downs owners are asking the state Legislature for permission to simulcast without live racing. The horse owners' lawyer says his clients should get some of that revenue.

The 79-year-old track in Boston and Revere said it would close after losing its bid for a casino at the site.
