Sun Life Financial Creating New Office in Maine

Initial plans are to hire dozens of workers

Sun Life Financial is creating its first office in Maine with initial plans to hire dozens of new workers.

The company announced Monday that it's opening an office to consolidate and expand its business that manages disabilities benefits. A spokeswoman said there will be 100 jobs initially - a mix of new hires and job transfers from other Sun Life offices.

Eventually, the office will house 200 workers.

Maine Department of Economic and Community Development Commission George Gervais said the Toronto-based company will be creating "many new good-paying careers for Maine people."

The company says the idea is to put the bulk of disability management operations under one roof. The company's U.S. headquarters is in Wellesley, Massachusetts; it also has other offices in Windsor, Connecticut, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
