Chief Executives' Club: GM CEO Daniel F. Akerson

(NECN) - On the June 16 edition of Chief Executives' Club, General Motors chairman and CEO Daniel F. Akerson spoke about the way his company has bounced back from its struggles as well future plans.

Akerson led off his speech by analyzing the major automaker's bankruptcy period and its return to profitability.

"We have generated $25 billion in profits since leaving the bankruptcy state ... We have a long way to go," said Akerson. "It took I don't know how many decades to get us in the situation we were in. It was deplorable, but this team is committed to making a difference."

Akerson showed great pride in the cars produced in all of his company's brands.

"The lineup at General Motors today literally is the best it's been, I think, in the history of the company," said Akerson. "No Cadillac model has been named car of the year. It was this year."

Discussing his company's focus on technology for the future of what he calls "a different GM than it was a couple years ago," Akerson expressed a desire to enhance connectivity.

"We want to turn every car into an Internet node," said Akerson. "We're going to roll this out here in Canada and the United States next year - it will have a WiFi hotspot in your car. It will also have 4G LTE in every car."
