MassChallenge Finalist: Beantown Bedding

(NECN) - On Monday, NECN Business explosred the business of sustainability with another New England company that's a finalist for October's MassChallenge awards.

It's a competition between 128 startups for a $100,000 grand prize.

Kirsten Lambert and Joan Ripple co-founded Beantown Bedding, which specializes in making bed sheets that don't have to be laundered because they're biodegradable and compostable.

"These are bedsheets and pillowcases that you will never have to wash," Ripple says. "We came up with these because we each, Kirsten and I each had kids in college that never took the time to wash their sheets and we realized that's pretty common among college kids, but what happens is dirty sheets become home to millions of bacteria and dust mites and the kids get sick and get allergies, so as mothers, we were concerned about their health and hygiene and wanted to come up with a solution that they could have clean sheets without washed sheets."
