A campaign called "What Kind of World Do You Want?" is challenging the silence about domestic violence within the LGBT community.
Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley says the social media campaign is focusing on voices that aren't often heard.
"It's really important that we diversify the narrative and the discourse. Very often people perpetuate this idea that this is only about violence against women by men, and so in that there is sort of a one dimensional narrative," she said.
Carl Sciortino, a former state legislator and current AIDS Action director, said the LGBT community is finally getting resources to combat these problems.
"Part of the point of the community is to educate the community itself that they do have the right to access the same services as their straight peers," he said.
