Massachusetts Counties Get Failing Grades for Air Quality

A study that tested the quality of the air across the U.S. showed some troubling results in the Bay State.

Of the 14 Massachusetts counties, the American Lung Association's report shows seven received failing grades.

Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Hampden, Hampshire and Norfolk Counties all failed. Plymouth and Franklin Counties did not receive grades due to incomplete monitoring data, while Nantucket County did not have a monitor to collect data.

Suffolk County received a C, as did Berkshire County, where Pittsfield was ranked as the 23rd cleanest city by particle pollution. Worcester County and Middlesex County both received D's.
