It was love at first sight for a 9-month-old puppy and 10-year-old girl — both of whom happen to be deaf.

Walter, a terrier-Chihuahua mix, ended up at the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA with four of his siblings in December. It wasn’t long before he caught the eye of a mom who knew she just had to take him home, the "Today" show reports.

"I remember just looking at him and I just, I knew that he was meant to be ours," said Chrissy, whose daughter Julia is deaf.

Julia and Walter have developed an inseparable bond and are learning sign language together.

"She's learned a whole other kind of love," Chrissy said of her daughter in a video posted on the humane society’s Facebook page. "I think they were both meant to find each other."
