Husband in Apparent Murder-Suicide Stabbed Himself in Chest: Authorities

Investigators now say they know what caused the deaths of a New Jersey couple found dead at home not far from their young child, who was unharmed.

Michael Tabacchi, 27, stabbed himself once in the chest, said Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli. Iran "Denise" Pars Tabacchi, 41, died after being strangled and stabbed once in the chest, Molinelli said. One knife was found, apparently a kitchen knife, near Michael Tabacchi's body.

Both parents were found late Friday in their home on High Street in Closter. Their young son was at home and unharmed, and he is now being cared for by his paternal grandparents.

"We believe that the husband killed the wife, but do not know what prompted all of it," Molinelli told The Record on Sunday.

Authorities were unaware of any marital or financial issues facing the couple, Molinelli said, but investigators are pursuing those lines of inquiry. There were no signs of forced entry at the house and authorities found no note, Molinelli said.

A neighbor told NBC 4 New York that Michael Tabacchi had sent a text message to his parents asking them to come to the house. Upon arrival, they immediately called for help, the neighbor said.
