Twitter Users Defend Mexican Gymnast After Body-Shaming

The 4-foot-10-inch, 99-pound athlete was called a "pig" and "pseudo athlete" on social media

Alexa Moreno competed in the Rio Olympics with hopes of bringing home a medal in gymnastics as the only female gymnastics competitor for Mexico at the Rio Olympics.

Moreno finished in 31st place in the all around, 28th place in the floor exercise and 12th place in the vault, eliminating her from competition on Sunday. The disappointment was met by social media users who criticized the 22-year-old for her muscular and athletic physique.

She's tiny framed at 4 feet 10 inches tall and 99 pounds, according to the Rio Olympics website. Yet one user called her a pig and posted a photo of the animal. The tweet has since been deleted, according to the Daily Mail

“Alexa Moreno, another example of pseudo athletes sent by the CONADE [Mexico's National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport] just to fulfill the quota," @Javo__O tweeted.
