Newt Gingrich Says Donald Trump ‘Not Trying' Yet

Gingrich continued to deny having conversations with Trump about taking the VP slot

Newt Gingrich said Saturday that Donald Trump is “not trying” in his bid for the White House, NBC News reported.

Gingrich made the comments to a crowd at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. He later explained his remarks to NBC News, saying Trump is well-positioned heading into the fall, even though he trails Clinton in swing state polling.

He also suggested Hillary Clinton’s campaign is “wasting a lot of money while allowing” Trump to “think through how he wants to run in the fall campaign.”

Gingrich continued to deny having conversations with Trump about taking the VP slot — and also told the crowd in Aspen that Trump needs to work with Republican leaders in Congress.

"The first thing Trump's got to think about is, 'Gee, I'd like to appoint a cabinet.' The first person you have to talk to about appointing the cabinet is the Senate majority leader," Gingrich said.
