Ohio Gorilla Exhibit Where Harambe Was Shot Dead Gets Remodel

The now-infamous Cincinnati Zoo facility where a silverback gorilla named Harambe was fatally shot last year after a toddler fell into his enclosure is set to reopen in June, NBC News reported.

The expanded, remodeled outdoor area is opening about a year after the incident took place, and will be joined with a new indoor area set to open in the fall, according a statement from the zoo on Friday.

Harambe was shot by a zoo employee after a 3-year-old boy fell into the enclosure and the 17-year-old gorilla began "violently dragging and throwing the child," as the city's as the city's top fire official put it later.

It triggered a federal investigation, which concluded the barrier didn't comply with standards, and an avalanche of criticism.
