Turkey Help Line Near Chicago Now Takes Text Questions

Working out of an office building in Naperville, Illinois, dozens of turkey-cooking experts answer holiday cooks' questions around the clock in November and December.

The Butterball Turkey Talk-Line began in 1981, with six home economists working the phones that holiday season to answer 11,000 turkey-cooking questions. Since then the Turkey Talk-Line has grown in both the number of calls answered and experts responding. This year, more than 50 experts are expected to answer more than 100,000 questions for households throughout the United States and Canada.

With more tech-savvy people entering the kitchen, the Talk-Line added a social media center several years ago to help cooks via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, live chat and email.

This year, they've added support for a new medium, text messaging.

For the first time in its 35-year history Butterball is allowing answer-seeking cooks to spell out their questions via text messages.

Cooks with questions ranging from how big of a bird they need, to how to thaw their turkey can text the Talk line at 1-800-Butterball 24/7 starting Nov. 17 and ending Nov. 24.
