Two People Arrested for Allegedly Hacking Senior Government Officials

Two North Carolina men were arrested for allegedly hacking into the computer systems of several senior government officials, according to an affidavit released Thursday by a Virginia district court, NBC News reported.

Andrew Otto Boggs, 22, and Justin Gray Liverman, 24, are accused of conspiring with a hacking collective called "CRACKAS WITH ATTITUDE" (CWA) to breach the officials' accounts and publish their personal information online.

CWA was credited with attacks targeting CIA director John Brennan, FBI Deputy Director Mark Giuliano and the Miami Police earlier this year.

A central technique the hackers used was to impersonate their victims by calling their service providers and requesting that their passwords be changed. The tactic, also known as "social engineering," would then lock the victims out of their own account.
