An epileptic man has been convicted of striking and killing a Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, police detective with his truck, despite multiple warnings from his doctor not to drive.

A federal court jury in Providence found 53-year-old Alan Bradley guilty Friday of operating a motor vehicle in reckless disregard of the safety of others, resulting in death.

Prosecutors say the Newport resident was warned on at least six occasions by his physician not to drive because of his epilepsy.

Bradley, a civilian Navy employee, was driving a government pickup on Sept. 26, 2013, when he struck Navy Police Detective Frank Lema, also a civilian.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 17. Bradley faces up to 10 years in federal prison.

Bradley's attorney, Terence Livingston, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
