Police: Traffic Stop Leads to Drugs, Weapons Bust

Police in Wareham, Massachusetts, have arrested a man on multiple drug and illegal weapon charges.

Police in Wareham, Massachusetts, have arrested a man on multiple drug and illegal weapon charges.

On Friday around 1:40 p.m., police say they conducted a traffic stop on Minot Avenue after a vehicle was suspected of having involvement in a drug transaction in another part of town.

Jason Fontes, 24, of Onset, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. During the investigation, police recovered 11 ounces of marijuana, two folding knives, a handgun, six rounds of ammunition, and an ammunition clip. In addition, a search of Fontes yielded two ounces of cocaine and over $1,000 in cash.

Fontes was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a firearm without an FID card, and unlawful possession of ammunition without an FID card.

On Monday, Fontes will be arraigned in Wareham District Court.
